OUR TEAM
After several years of close collaboration on a number of prestige architectural projects, Peter Sugar of Sugar & Company Architects, and Des Holmes of Des Holmes Architects, decided in 2015 to formally amalgamate their individual practices to create Sugar & Holmes Architecture in order to offer a seamless, professional service for their individual residential, developer and institutional clients.
PETER SUGAR - DIRECTOR
Bachelor of Architecture (Melb)
Peter Sugar graduated from Melbourne University School of Architecture in 1976. After a period as a project architect on a variety of major developments in Britain, Italy and the Middle East, he returned to Melbourne, Australia and was for some years a director of Caulfield, Krivanek & Sugar, Architects.
On leaving to form Sugar & Company, he established an architectural practice dedicated to meeting clients needs through exceptional client service. Peter is a firm believer that this begins by listening – listening to understand the clients’ needs and wants, being flexible and following through is the only way to “get it right”. This allows Peter to provide the information required to allow clients to make the best informed decision.
Another of Peter’s strengths is utilizing his unique problem solving skills to coordinate team efforts to address complex design issues and challenging budgets. “I enjoy managing projects by leading the entire team to work together toward a common goal – a successful project and a happy client”.
DES HOLMES - DIRECTOR
Dip. Arch. (Hons) Dublin Institute of Technology / B.Arch Sc. Trinity College Dublin.
Des Holmes graduated from DIT in 1983. He worked in several Architectural practices in Ireland, London, and the USA, he then moved to Australia in 1988 and joined Hassell Architects Melbourne until 1994.
In 1994 Des set up Des Holmes Architects P/L, and so founded a progressive and efficient Architectural practice, dedicated to providing imaginative, energy efficient and cost-effective solutions to his Clients’ needs.
Des Holmes Architects P/L successfully completed many varied projects including Custom Residential, Residential alterations, Multi-Residential, Commercial Fit-outs, University & Rail Infrastructure, and Government Department of Housing.
While the combination of two Architectural Practices in 2015 has resulted in the capacity to take on larger and more complex projects, the care and thoughtfulness which has always defined our Projects will continue.
